28 political parties hail Governor Wike’s performance

By Seun Opejobi

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, was commended by twenty-eight political parties in the state for living up to his campaign promises so far.

Secretary of Inter-party Advisory Council, IPAC, Rueben Favour said the parties were impressed with Wike’s performance so far.

Reuben stated that Wike, by appointing opposition into the newly constituted caretaker committees in the various local government areas has given room to every Rivers indigene to contribute their quota to the development of the State.

The political parties further commended the governor for encouraging the judiciary to thrive as an independent arm of government.

They said: “The judiciary which was in comatose for over a year under the immediate past administration is now free from executive emasculation as lawyers and judges are serving the course of justice. In addition, Governor Wike has removed the legislature from executive encumbrances, interference and intimidation. All the three arms of government are working with absolute autonomy and in synergy, too. This, by our reckoning, is the governor’s idea of democracy and good governance.

“It is important to state that Governor Wike makes the security of lives and property of all Rivers people and residents a topmost priority, hence, the acquisition of 64 Toyota Hilux Security Patrol Vans fitted with modern security gadgets for law enforcement agencies.”

However, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state is not part of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC.

Wike described Street celebrations during project inspections as show of overwhelming mandate

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the celebrations on the streets of Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas during his regular project inspections represent the overwhelming mandate freely given to him by the people of the state.

Addressing journalists on Monday after inspecting road and school projects in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas, Governor Wike declared that he is further inspired to deliver on his covenant with the people by their appreciation of his good works.

He pledged that he would drive the revival of Port Harcourt City to its logical conclusion, noting that the old Garden City, would re-emerge at the end of the urban renewal programme of his administration.

Governor Wike said: "The people are happy. They appreciate what we are doing for them. We want to turn Port Harcourt and its environs around and re-establish the Garden City that will be a pride of the nation.

"We will use the dry season to accomplish the revival programme within the limits of available resources. In Diobu, out of the 22 kilometres being reconstructed, we have achieved 17 kilometres. The remaining aspects of the Diobu roads have reached 70 percent completion.

"The mandate the people freely gave to us will be utilised effectively for their wellbeing. People came out overwhelmingly and voted for us and we are doing what they want ".

A statement signed by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media noted that hundreds of residents thronged the streets of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas to cheer Governor Wike as he inspected road and school projects.

SO FAR, WIKE IS THE BEST. NO ARGUMENTS (Opinion)

You may have your personal views about the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, especially as regards the political equation in the state. You may be tempted to believe the false political propaganda being churned out by the rejected opposition in the state backed by a financially compromised section of the media. But when the facts are down, you cannot not argue. Wike is simply the best in the present dispensation.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has lifted the bar of performance and established new benchmarks for the assessment of performing governors in the country.

When he churned out state-of-the-art projects after just one hundred days in office, his dumb-founded opponents murmured all manners of funny pedestrian excuses. Wike borrowed money, Wike completed our projects, Wike is just trying to hoodwink Rivers people that he is a performer, Wike this, Wike that.

These excuses did not fly. Governor Wike personally took journalists on a tour of projects to mark his first 100 days in office. Some of the journalists rode in the same bus with the governor. They saw abandoned projects completed in record time, they saw new projects completed and they saw fresh projects still being executed within the approved time lines and in line with Governor Wike’s avowed financial prudence.

About 70 days after he celebrated his first 100 days in office, the performance data in the public domain indicate that he is the only Governor in the country who is productively delivering in line with his development blueprint. He is the only governor whose reputation is not driven by mere propaganda. He is the only governor who walks the street in work attire, identifying with workers and the ordinary people.

It is only in Rivers State that infrastructural development has been tied to the economy with the governor opening neglected areas. The multiplier effect has positively impacted the state’s economy.

The flag off of the total rehabilitation of 11 Secondary schools in the state in terms of infrastructure, laboratories, hostels and libraries is not only pro-people, but a pragmatic investment aimed at building a world class educational framework.

The governor in his pragmatic approach to governance personally inspected preliminary rehabilitation works in one of the schools, GSS Rumuokuta, Obio/ Akpor LGA. He was happy with what he saw.

The programme will restore iconic selected iconic schools in all three senatorial districts of the state. The eleven schools being upgraded form the first phase as they will witness the reintroduction of boarding education.

Other schools with decayed facilities will receive attention.

As Governor Wike delivers on roads, education, health , environmental sanitation and security, he declares that dwindling resources will not affect his determination to actualize programmes outlined in his blueprint.

His achievement in the area of security has led to the influx of professionals and entertainers into Rivers State to host conferences and events. The last professional body to be hosted in Rivers State was the Nigerian Bar Association. The Super Eagles and other national teams have made Port Harcourt their home because of improved security in the state. Under the immediate past failed administration in the state, these high points were not possible as the former governor chased shadows.

Governor Wike gave this assurance to the NBA: “ we are committed to taking action on several fronts and using resources at our disposal to keep Rivers State safe, secure and peaceful for investors, residents and visitors. While our government is open to constructive criticisms, we expect the opposition to also acknowledge the fact that these are financially challenging times for the entire country, and Rivers State is not different.

” If you have the passion, as we do, that we must salvage Rivers State; if you are determined, as we do, that we must not turn our backs on those in need of empowerment; if you believe, as we do, that working together we can build a better future for our children and the succeeding generations, then join us to bring about the better life that our people greatly deserve.”

The reception that Governor Wike received on Saturday, November 14 when he embarked on road inspection in Port Harcourt and Obio/ Akpor LGAs proved that the Rivers people are satisfied with his superlative performance.

He has pledged to reward them with sustained performance which will end on May 28, 2019. The people entered into a Covenant with Wike. They fulfilled their own side of the bargain on April 11 and 12. Now, Wike is reciprocating and his calculated steps have made him Nigeria’s most outstanding governor.

I DID NOT ERR IN SEEKING LOANS, WIKE TELLS OPPOSITION

Governor Nyesom Wike has defended why he took loan from the bank to fund capital projects maintaining that nothing will deter him from ensuring that the state remains on track despite the economic cash crunch besetting the country.

While speaking at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) National Executive Meeting (NEC) held at Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Wike reiterated that the state did not receive any financial bailout from the federal government.

He however said that the situation will not deter him from moving the state forward.

“We expect the opposition to also acknowledge the fact that these are challenging times in the country and Rivers State is not different. Therefore there is nothing wrong from obtaining loans from financial institutions to fund developmental challenges and advance on the road to progress and prosperity.”

He intimated the body that since assuming office he has repositioned the state through the rehabilitation and construction of abandoned road projects, opening of the courts and funding the judiciary, paying of salary arrears to civil servants, pensioners, sportsmen, and payment of bursaries to students studying abroad.

Wike said his administration holds the judiciary in high premium and is poised to harmonize, reform the courts for effective justice delivery.

In line with the policy of granting autonomy to the courts, he revealed that so far about N500million has been released by his administration to the judiciary in carrying out capital projects, while noting that plans are underway to provide conducive accommodation, vehicles to magistrates and top judicial officers in the state.

He assured the NBA that in the next one year a befitting secretariat will be built for the body in Port Harcourt as funds has already been released on the project by government.

The Rivers State governor while commending NBA for hosting its meeting in the state, urged the body not to abandon its basic ideals of being advocate of rule of law and better governance in the country.
On her part, Acting Chief Judge of the State, Justice Daisy Okocha said under her administration the judiciary is working towards building a stronger and vibrant legal system, “an independent arm of government, ensuring the protection of rights and delivery of justice,” Okocha emphasized.

She tasked NBA not to veer from its founding principles, “We must strive to preserve from decadence and the meddlesome hands of politicians.”

Earlier, President of the NBA, Augustine Alegeh thanked the state branch of the NBA and the governor for hosting the body’s NEC meeting, stating that the meeting will afford them opportunities to get first hand information about developments in the state.

Alegeh lauded Wike for the efforts made in re-opening the courts, funding the judiciary and for creating a robust relationship between the bar and the bench, as he expressed hope that Rivers State will remain a beacon of light and hope in promoting judicial activities.

He assured that the body will ensure that the crisis that rocked the judiciary in Rivers State does not occur again, “the bar stands for independence of the judiciary. The lesson we have learnt is that we should come together and fight against interference.”

Wike provides Rivers rebuilding update

Augustine Osayande

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike said the alleged propaganda by critics would not deter his administration's plans to rebuild the state.

Amid criticism by the aspirant to his position, Dakuku Peterside, Wike said he was focusing on the task of reviving a region ravaged by alleged corruption of the immediate past All Progressives Congress administration.

The People's Democratic Party official said the mandate of the people of given during the governorship elections in April tasked him to use the resources of the state to develop all parts of the state and all sectors of the economy.

“Despite inheriting a state crippled by the immediate past administration in the state, our refreshing governance initiatives have set Rivers State on the path of development," said Wike.

He added that the current administration had started the process of rehabilitating major public primary and secondary schools across the state after reopening all public schools on account of the debt owed by the former administration.

Wike said the roads constructed and being rehabilitated by the administration across the state were well over 150 kilometres.

He said the economy of Rivers State was in good health with the state government meeting its financial obligations to workers, pensioners and contractors.

APC living in self-delusion, Wike’s election will be upheld – PDP

Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, on Sunday expressed confidence that his election would be upheld by the appelate court.

In a statement signed by Simeon Nwakaudu, his Special Assistant on Media, Wike said “the commencement of illegal political campaign by the defeated Rivers State APC Governorship Candidate, Mr Dakuku Peterside on Saturday is an action in self-delusion as the mandate freely given to Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike by Rivers people will be reaffirmed by the Appellate process.”

He said “contrary to the falsehood spread by Mr Peterside during his illegal political campaign on Saturday, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike was duly elected by the people and has managed the resources of the state prudently, kickstarting an unprecedented development process which stands him out as the best governor in Nigeria today.

“Mr Peterside during his illegal campaign on Saturday lied about alleged loans he claimed Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike had taken. It is public knowledge that the elected Governor of Rivers State was compelled to take N30billion loan because the immediate past APC administration in the state crippled her finances, left the state in huge debts with months of unpaid salaries, pensions, unpaid scholarships, abandoned projects and a disillusioned populace.

“It was through brilliant financial prudence that the governor kick-started the state’s economy damaged by the immediate past governor and the Rivers APC .

“Indeed, Rivers State is one of the state that did not take the two tranches of the Federal Government bailout due to the Governor’s financial prudence and consideration for the future of the state’s economy.

“Some states took as much as N50b to stabilise their economies and struggle towards productivity. However, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has maintained Rivers State as a development centre where execution of projects have been the cornerstone stone in five months.

“Mr Peterside’s illegal campaign is a wasted effort as the people of Rivers State took their position to vote out the APC on April 11 and 12. Rivers State is in safe hands and the people are enjoying the benefits of good governance after the ungodly locust years of Rivers State APC. The facts proved that the Rivers State APC suffered defeat during the governorship election. The tribunal judgment based on card reader accreditation and expunged hearsay allegations against named and un-named security agents and alleged political thugs will not stand the test of Appeal.

“Governor Wike has restored peace and security which have enabled Peterside to sneak into a serene state to engage in campaigns.

“He has redefined the development process in the state, turning the state into a mega construction centre, which is now the reference point of the country.

“Nigerians know the Rivers State APC and their governorship candidate as political nollywood practitioners who are comfortable with entertaining political spectators.

“However, the mess Rivers State APC left on ground is massive and Mr Peterside’s entertainment value is not needed at the moment as Governor Wike, duly elected by the people is very busy, working for the people. Governor Wike will exercise his mandate till 2019 when the people will again decide the direction of the state.”
