Rivers State Governor,
Nyesom Wike, has said his
administration would soon commence a comprehensive rehabilitation of all
prominent model schools in the state.
Speaking
after he inspected the dilapidated structures at Government Comprehensive
Secondary School, Borikiri, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, Wike expressed regret
that most of the model schools in the state were allowed to rot
by the former administration.
He
disclosed that a committee has been set up
by the administration to compile the list of
the schools that would need immediate
intervention.
According
to the
governor, the committee would
also compile all the facilities needed to put the schools in shape for proper
learning to take place.
He
also directed that the trespass of schools by residents of adjoining
communities should be checked by officials
of the State Ministry of Education.
Wike
said, "I was shocked by the
deplorable condition that the immediate past administration left the Government Comprehensive
Secondary School, Borikiri. This school has produced several
notable personalities in the state and we shall restore all facilities.
