Wike dissolves Rivers State Independent electoral Commission, Judicial Commission

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has announced the dissolution of the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission (RSJSC).

The Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, in a statement made available on Monday night said the governor acted on the recommendation of the state House of Assembly on grounds of official misconduct levelled against both agencies.‎

The Rivers state House of Assembly had on Monday empowered the Executive Governor of the state, to sack the Chairman of the Rivers state Independent electoral Commission, RSIEC, Professor Augustin Ahiaozu and his six-man member Commission.

They also granted him power to dissolve the Secretary and members of the Rivers state Judicial Service Commission, JSC.

29 out of 30 members of the house voted in favour of this.

The assembly, in its sitting also declared the May 23 Local Government Elections illegal .

These resolutions were made after principal officers of the RSIEC and RSJSC appeared before the lawmakers following their summons.
