Rivers
State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared that his administration would end
multiple taxation to encourage the business community in the state.
Addressing
the Rivers State business community comprising Port Harcourt Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (PHACCIMA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN)
and the Petroleum Technical Association of Nigeria at the Government House,
Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, Wike said his administration would create the
right environment for businesses to thrive so they could create employment.
“Multiple
taxation will no longer exist when this administration settles down. We will
work with the Local Government Councils to streamline taxes, so that businesses
will not pay a tax in one local government and replicate same in another local
government area,” he said.
The
governor said that he would set in motion the required legal and administrative
framework to ensure the speedy issuance of certificates of occupancy and other
title documents to create avenues for the private sector to have easier access
to finance from financial institutions.
